Texas CNA records are maintained by HHSC, not the Board of Nursing. Use the TULIP employability search and understand when an employer must also check the Employee Misconduct Registry.

CNA is not covered by the Nurse Licensure Compact
The NLC applies to qualifying RN and LPN/VN licenses. Texas nurse aide certification follows HHSC registry and reciprocity rules instead.

How to complete the Texas CNA search
Open TULIP's employability search
Use the official HHSC action above. This is separate from the Texas Board of Nursing license portal.
Choose Nurse Aide
On the Employability Status Check side, select the Nurse Aide program before entering the requested identity details.
Use enough information to avoid a false match
HHSC warns that first-and-last-name-only searches may return multiple people and that name changes affect results. Use the strongest official identifier available and keep sensitive data on the government portal.
Read both status indicators
HHSC instructs users to look for Revoked under NA Certification Status and Yes under Unemployable. Do not infer an active certification solely from the absence of an EMR entry.

Use the download control in the result banner. For regulated hiring, complete and retain the separate Employee Misconduct Registry search as HHSC instructs.

- The official training identifies this as the employability indicator to review. Employers subject to the cited Texas rules must follow HHSC's complete two-registry process.
- No result displayed
- HHSC says the Employability Status Check shows nothing when the searched person is not part of that registry. This is not visually equivalent to a positive active-certification record.

Work through this checklist before drawing a conclusion
- Confirm that Nurse Aide—not Medication Aide or Nursing Facility Administrator—was selected.
- Check spelling and repeat the search with a former name if the aide's name changed.
- Use a stronger official identifier where the portal permits it; name-only results can be ambiguous.
- Capture the search criteria and date/time as HHSC instructs when the Employability Status Check returns a blank result.
- Contact the HHSC Nurse Aide Registry before treating a blank or ambiguous result as proof of certification.
A missing search result is not, by itself, proof that a person has never held a Texas credential.

Why is my Texas CNA search completely blank?
HHSC says its Employability Status Check displays nothing when no record is found in the selected registry. Confirm the program and search details, capture the criteria and date/time as instructed, and contact the Nurse Aide Registry if certification must be established.
Is the Texas CNA registry part of the Board of Nursing?
No. Texas Health and Human Services maintains the Nurse Aide Registry and TULIP credentialing system. RN, LVN and APRN licenses are handled by the Texas Board of Nursing.
What status should an employer review in TULIP?
The HHSC training tells users to review NA Certification Status for Revoked and the Unemployable field for Yes. Regulated employers must also complete the separate Employee Misconduct Registry search.
Can I verify a Texas CNA through Nursys?
No. Nursys covers participating-board nurse licensure such as RN, PN/VN and APRN data; Texas nurse aide certification is checked through HHSC's Nurse Aide Registry workflow.
